Dorothy Shoes – Not In My House please

Posted: 3 January 2010

“They are like Dorothy Shoes” he protested.

My husband tries to defend his decision while I go up like a rocket!

My four year old has entered the office wearing pink high heeled sparkly court shoes. Some company (which will not be named for legal reason!!) thinks its a good idea to sell high heeled shoes to children. Not only could this damage my daughters feet but what about being a little girl? I know we have watched the Wizard of Oz a million times over Christmas but I’m sure Dorothy is about 17 and so high heeled sparkly shoes are acceptable.

They are pretty shoes but surely I’m not alone in thinking that these shoes are not for little girls. The next thing you know it will be mini skirts, earrings and make-up! Please can a child remain a child until at least the age of 10 in the 21st Century.

So – wounded – and put in his place – Husband returns to large shoe shop (not to be named for legal reasons) which high heeled shoes and exchanges them for flat pretty party shoes that epitomise how a little girls feet should look.

It’s usually daddy who won’t let his little girl grow up but something tells me the mummy will have a few problems in our house.

Here’s to old fashioned games, toys and pretending. I vow to keep my three as children for as long as possible – no more teenage paraphanelia in our hosue for another 10 years please Santa.
