Classes in schools

WHAT WE DO
We visit schools to deliver Pyjama Drama; a drama and imaginative play programme for children up to seven years. We offer two age-differentiated classes; Rainbows for three and four-year-olds, and Sunbeams for children between five and seven years. Schools can also choose one of our hugely popular Interactive Performances for children between the ages of three and seven; a fun-filled show packed with music, song and dramatic play.

HOW OFTEN WE VISIT
We're really very flexible and can visit as and when you like - during the school day, or after school to deliver After School Clubs. Some schools book us regularly and some once in a while; to help celebrate Diwali or World Book Day for example.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Lots of our sessions and shows have been developed to reinforce or teach important messages, such as how to cross the road using the Green Cross Code, or how to stay safe on Bonfire Night. And many offer opportunities for cross-curricular links with, for example, sessions exploring The Environment (Science) Different People (History) or Celebrations (PSHE). It goes without saying that schools book Pyjama Drama because our classes and shows develop skills such as communication, cooperation, confidence and concentration, as well as because they are lots of fun!

WHAT HAPPENS IN A CLASS
In each 40-minute Rainbows class children sing and dance, play games and pretend, and it's always a different adventure! We have hundreds of different themes covering a wide range of topics, so one week we may gallop through the streets on the back of a unicorn, the next take our poorly dog to the vets and the next help a friendly shark to clean his teeth.

Sunbeams classes are one hour long and encourage children to create their own original stories and drama. Children sing, move and play drama games which help them to explore their stories, along with simple explorative tools such as hot-seating, narration, freeze frame, role play and movement. Teachers tell us time and again how our classes benefit their children, not only developing their social skills but also their story writing and their ability to evaluate their work.

HOW MANY CHILDREN CAN YOU TAKE?
Because our drama is child-led, we keep our numbers small at 16 for our classes. This is to ensure every child has the opportunity to play a starring role, in what is very often a highly physical and energetic class. In an Interactive Performance, we can take up to 30, as the class becomes part of our very special 'audience'.

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN INTERACTIVE PERFORMANCE?
Suitable for children up to seven, our Interactive Performances are action-packed shows filled with singing, dancing, playing games and pretending. We don't use props or costumes, and you'll be amazed at how one skilled performer can single-handedly create a range of imaginary characters and magical worlds. These shows are not only of educational value but also perfect for a whole class treat. This year's panto is Jack and the Beanstalk - find your nearest panto today!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
As a guide, a 'one-off' session costs as little as £48.00, but if we visit your school regularly this price is often reduced. A whole class performance is around £90.00. After School Clubs are charged between £2.50 - £3.50 per child, depending on numbers and any room-hire costs. Please search for 'classes in schools' to check exact prices in your area.

BOOK A FREE TASTER SESSION
We want as many children as possible to experience our sessions, so if you're new to Pyjama Drama, why not book a free taster session (for up to 16 children), by searching for 'free taster' here. In the meantime, take a look at what happens when you add a little imagination...
