Drama for babies

Before coming along to a class, people often ask how we 'do drama' with babies, after all, babies can't pretend, they haven't yet developed their imaginations so what's it all about? Well, put quite simply, it's about play!

Here at Pyjama Drama we believe passionately in the power of play and we know that playing games helps babies and young children learn about their world and to develop their cognitive, physical and emotional skills. We also know that young children don't need complicated equipment or expensive toys, in fact we firmly believe that you are your child's favorite toy - after all there is nothing that delights a young child more than seeing the face of someone they love. Perhaps most importantly of all, we know that when children play, they laugh, and that is why our classes are jam packed full of fun, original and exciting games!

What to expect in a Dewdrops class

Dewdrops classes are for babies and young toddlers aged approximately between six to eighteen months. As every parent knows, this is a period of remarkable change, when a child goes from sitting up, to crawling and toddling. This is also a key time for them in terms of their emerging communications skills.  Pyjama Drama classes gently help children along with their development, all while having lots and lots of fun!

In each class you and your Dewdrop will:

  • Play!  All babies and toddlers love to play and our games are simple, exciting activities that parents can replicate at home. Our games are original - you won't find them anywhere else and they are  designed to stimulate the senses and make babies smile, giggle and join in.
  • Listen to a story: The dramatic story is central to the Dewdrops class. The Pyjama Drama teacher tells a simple story in a dramatic way, capturing the attention of young children. While babies and toddlers watch, listen and observe the story, they are learning about facial expression and the tone and meaning of words and it encourages them to try out making new sounds themselves and eventually, to talk.
  • Sing and play music: Music and song play a really important role in all our classes so come along and learn new songs, play musical games and take a very noisy instrument from the music box!
  • Dance, jump, swing! There is lots of playful movement in a Dewdrops class which delights babies and toddlers and helps them with their physical development.

What do people say?

The babies that come to our classes tell us week after week how much they love coming along! That huge grin as they walk through the door, those little feet that kick uncontrollably as the Pyjama Drama song begins or those chuckles of laughter during a tickling game - they all tell us that we are on to something good! The grownups say quite nice things too..

  • 'I go to quite a few classes with my baby but I have to say our Pyjama Drama class is the highlight of our week.' Sandra, Pat's mum

  • 'Jack and I love coming to Pyjama Drama. We play the bedtime gamee every night and we have learned so many new songs too - thank you!' Jack's mum

  • 'Millie loves Pyjama Drama and I can't believe how much she has developed over the weeks. She now recognises all her little friends in the class and I have enjoyed meeting the other mums too!' Jenny, Lydia's mum
