How to get the best out of your 'Raindrops' class

1) Arrive a little early on your first week if you can. This will lessen the chance of your child becoming overwhelmed by giving them a chance to say ‘hello’ to their teacher and familiarise themselves with their surroundings before everyone else arrives.

2) Sit with your child at the beginning and end of each class. Pyjama Drama works best, and children develop key skills more rapidly when children and adults share at least some of the session together. If, during the more active parts of the class your child is happy to go it alone, take a seat and enjoy the fun!

3) Every child is different, and all develop their skills at their own pace. This means that some will have the confidence to share their ideas and join in from the first class, and others won’t. Don’t assume that if your child prefers to watch the class from the safety of your knee they’re not learning – children learn through observation and will get involved as soon as their confidence builds, even if it takes a few weeks.

4) Observe your child and their responses. If you notice them getting upset, distressed, or cross, please don’t be afraid to step in and deal with the situation as you see fit. This may mean sitting with them for a few minutes or temporarily removing them from the session until they feel better.

5) Although we will never ask you do any actual drama (that’s our teachers’ job), your child might want or need you to join in at times. If they’re happy to participate independently, please take a seat from where you can observe the fun but be close enough to step in and offer support if needed.

Meet Alex Searle...

Hello everyone! I’m Alex, Manager of Pyjama Drama Runnymede and Woking. I have always loved the magic of pretending, so I decided to pursue a degree in Theatre and Performance, from the University of Surrey. After graduating, I began working as a Session Leader for another Pyjama Drama Franchise. I loved it so much, I simply had to start my own business. I absolutely adore Pyjama Drama and how varied each session is….One day we’re flying into space and the next day we’re helping the Gruffalo! Here at Pyjama Drama we rely simply on our imaginations and that’s what makes my job so magical (and like no other!). I can’t wait to share the fun with your little ones - see you soon!
